French Translation of the Official Rules of an Online Game

24 December 2025 - News

We were commissioned to translate from English into French the official rules of an online game organized by a Danish game manufacturer, designed to promote its products among users in several European countries.

An International Game under Specific Conditions

The game was reserved for adults, registered members of the organizer’s platform, and residents of eligible countries. The rules set out the conditions for participating in the sweepstakes to win a trip to the United States, offered by the company.

The regulation specifically detailed:

  • eligibility criteria,

  • the duration of the game and participation procedures,

  • the type of prize to be won,

  • the rules for selecting winners,

  • the procedure for claiming the prize,

  • as well as the obligations relating to personal data confidentiality.

❓ FAQ: translating the official rules of an online game

How are “official rules” and “sweepstakes” rendered in French?

They become règlement officiel and jeu respectively. In this project, the rules governed a prize draw open to registered members in eligible countries, with a trip offered by the organising company as the reward.

What does “eligibility” cover in promotional rules?

Translated as admissibilité, it sets out who may enter — here, being of legal age, a registered platform member and a resident of an eligible country. These criteria decide whether a participant’s entry is valid.

Why separate “data privacy notice” from “privacy policy”?

They are distinct instruments: avertissement concernant la confidentialité des données versus politique de confidentialité. Conflating them would misstate their scope, so each was rendered consistently throughout the translated rules.

How should “prize” and “claiming the prize” be translated?

As dotation and attribution de la dotation. The rules detailed winner selection and the claim procedure, terms that had to stay coherent across the document to preserve its legal precision.
