We were recently commissioned to translate from English into French the privacy policy of a mobile application offered by an operator of self-service electric scooters.
This app, available on iOS and Android, collects and processes a wide range of personal data through its geolocation features, trip management, and communication tools with users.
A comprehensive privacy policy aligned with the RGPD
The document addressed in particular:
-
the collection of données de localisation,
-
données d’identification (IP address, device ID, user coordonnées),
-
taking photos de trottinettes,
-
the use of données anonymisées for statistical purposes,
-
data retention periods,
-
and the rights granted to users (access, rectification, objection, droit à l’oubli, etc.).
The challenge was to accurately render the typical legal phrasing of technical English while adapting it to RGPD terminology and to the expectations of French users in terms of transparency.
📌 Contextual translations from this project

❓ FAQ: French translation of an urban-mobility app privacy policy
What data did this privacy policy actually cover?
It was the policy of a self-service electric-scooter app: geolocation data, technical identifiers (IP address, device ID), user contact details, photos of scooters, and anonymised data used for statistics. The source was in English and had to be rendered into French.
What made this English-to-French translation tricky?
The technical English phrasing had to be aligned with RGPD terminology and with French users' transparency expectations. The original wording does not always match the exact nomenclature French data-protection law relies on.
